The basics of imaging has not changed in the last century. It is still based on a solid foundation of library science. The idea is simple, put things where other people can find them. In the case of digital images that is anywhere there is a computer capable of displaying the image. How about when there is not? in 100 years will the images you see today still be available to someone or will they just turn to digital dust?
Microfilm is an analog method of storing images with a long history of success. A single roll of microfilm can store 20,000 images for hundreds of years at a time. By taking the digital images, sorting them and writing them to microfilm we can pre build what your microfilm library will look like and desing how it will be used in the future. All that is needed to read film is a siimple reader with a magnifier and a light source.
Digital may provide a fast and economical method for delivering a large number of people the information they need but keeping everything in digital form is expensive. Microfilm is very cheap and easy to store.
